The main purpose of a UPS is to provide instantaneous power when your main power system experiences a failure. Unlike generators, which take time to startup, UPS’s run on batteries and eliminate any downtime. This is essential when you’re providing a mission critical or emergency service. Hospital respirators, or critical data systems, can’t be down for even a few minutes. The UPS bridges the gap between your initial power failure and when your generator kicks into high gear.Learn More
We carry a wide range of breaker manufacturers and amperage sizes including Challenger, Cutler Hammer, Federal Pacific, GE, ITE-Siemens, Square D, Westinghouse and Zinsco. They range in sizes from 10 amps to over 3000 amps.
Circuit breakers shut off electrical circuits when they become overwhelmed by a current. Breakers that can handle 600 volts or less are considered low voltage. Medium voltage breakers can handle up to 1,500 volts, and use different methods to break their circuits such as vacuum, air or SF6 gas. High voltage breakers are often used for outdoor electrical systems and can handle a minimum of 1,500 volts. In addition to the same methods used by medium voltage breakers, high voltage breakers can also use bulk oil and minimum oil. These breakers tend to use gas.
When you need to replace a circuit breaker, make sure that your new breaker has the same volt-amperes as the old breaker.Learn More
Raised access flooring provides an elevated floor beneath which one can run cabling, wires and circulate cool air. This type of flooring consists of a substructure of pedestal supports that vary in height, providing support for removable floor panels. These floor panels tend to be 2×2 ft and come in a variety of fills including concrete, hollow steel and woodcore. Panels also come in a few different finishes; carpet tiles, laminates, marble, stone, and more.Lear More
We sell server racks in a variety of sizes, makes and models. Among those manufacturers are APC, Compaq, Eaton, Emerson, Kendall Howard, Liebert, Dell, HP, Sun, Chatsworth, Rittal, and IBM. We sell full-sized racks and half-sized racks. Rack accessories include cable management devices and power strips. Sizes we offer range between 8U and 47U, including many in popular sizes like 42U. Almost all data centers use 42U racks, but other applications call for other sizes. When choosing a server rack it is important to know how much space you need – as quantified in ‘rack unit,’ RU, or most commonly U. A 42U rack is 73.5″ and the standard width is 19″. External dimensions will vary. This size will hold over 6′ of equipment. Server racks may be used for a number of applications. Most commonly they are used to hold servers and other computer or monitoring equipment. Other uses include network racking, telecom racks, and media racks.Learn More
Cooling towers discharge heat from air conditioning systems and come in a number of sizes varying from small roof-top units to enormous towers up to 660′ tall. These towers are used for a variety of applications including oil refineries, petrochemical plants, thermal power stations and HVAC systems. We most commonly see HVAC cooling towers which are essential for keeping heat-producing data center equipment functional. Water-cooled chillers are generally more energy efficient than air-cooled chillers which reject heat at a higher temperature. Chillers, CRAC units and cooling tower sizes are measured in tonnage. A ton of air-conditioning is the removal of 12,000BTU/hour. An equivalent ton on the cooling tower side rejects 15,000BTU/hour.
We carry numerous manufacturers of cooling towers and chillers including Trane, York, Carrier, McQuay, Aaon, BOC, FES, Mydax and others. Some kinds of chillers include centrifugal chillers, rotary chillers, scroll compressor chillers and absorption chillers. Centrifugal chillers are normally used for large processes and multi-story buildings – they range from 100 tons to over 1000 tons of cooling. Absorption chillers, similar to centrifugal chillers, are used for larger applications and range from 200 tons to over 1000 tons. They do not use typical refrigerant-based cooling cycles. Scroll-hermetic refers to the type of refrigeration compressor used, and are distinguished from semi-hermetic units, which use a different kind of compressor.Learn More
CRAC units monitor and maintain the temperature, air distribution and humidity in a data center or other mission critical location. This is essential as the kinds of equipment found in these locations (such as UPS power equipment, server racks, etc) can reach levels of heat that jeopardize your unit stability. The main purpose of any CRAC unit is to make sure your equipment doesn’t overheat and run into problems small and large.
One popular buildout for a computer room is using Downflow CRAC units to push cool air underneath raised access flooring. Computers and racks are placed about two tiles apart, with their air intakes facing each other. As the CRAC unit pumps cool air through the perforated floor tiles, the racks intake the air and exhaust hot air into the opposing hot aisle. CRAC units then pull in the hot air and release it underneath the floor tiles, making a complete cycle. Another option, Upflow units, uses a similar model but with the room’s ceiling.Learn More
Quantum Technology buys and stocks a wide array of lab equipment including – but not limited to – casework, fume hoods, cabinetry, sinks, analytical equipment, scales, balance tables, shelves, epoxy tops, flammable cabinets, corrosive cabinets, beaker dryers, glassware dryers, blowers, and more.
Our team is trained in best practices for the safe decommission and removal of laboratory equipment. This equipment is often delicate. We can do the removal and sometimes depending on the equipment even pay you to decommission your site.
We constantly have fume hoods in a variety of styles and models in stock perfect for small labs, start-ups, and other chemical and biological ventures requiring good equipment at a fair price. Some of the fume hood models we stock include Labconco, Fisher Hamilton, Kewaunee, and ChemGuard.Learn More
Transfer switches are electrical switches that can move an electrical load from one source to another. Very commonly they are found with backup power generators. When the power goes out, the Automatic Transfer Switch (or ATS) goes on – moving the electrical load of a given building to the generator. An ATS will isolate the backup generator from the electric utility while it is on and providing temporary power. There are also manual transfer switches that rely on the operator to switch the load over. When the utility power returns, the ATS can recognize this and tell the generator to shut off and switch the load back onto the utility power. Some transfer switches allow for load shedding and prioritization of optional circuits. More complex switchgear allow soft loading – a technique that can reduce peak load demand from a utility.Learn More
Servers, routers, phone gear and computers are ubiquitous in the modern business environment. Every industry needs servers and telecommunications systems to keep their offices functioning smoothly. Often this kind of equipment becomes outdated quickly, but sometimes there is value in surplus lots of this kind of gear. We buy servers from manufacturers such as Cisco, Dell, HP and IBM, including popular models like PowerEdge and E-Series. Blade servers and expansion servers can both have resale value, as can telecommunications systems such as Cisco, Juniper, Lucent, Nortel, HP and more. We can also purchase financial tech solutions like IPC Unigy and IQ/Max products. If you do have a surplus of this kind of equipment, please contact Quantum Technology today and one of our specialists will work up a quote for you. If possible, please make a list of exactly what equipment you have including quantities and relevant model numbers. That will ensure that we are able to give you the best pricing for your surplus technology.Learn More
